The organisation of volunteer heritage restoration sites requires people with technical and communication skills to manage them. REMPART runs a number of just such training programmes for volunteers wishing to participate in the running of REMPART restoration sites. Intending group leaders follow two different training programmes: · “Historical monuments” programme with heritage conservation classes, both theoretical (art history, relevant legislation etc.) and practical (restoration techniques). This course is run by a chief heritage architect and the technical sections are run by restoration professionals. · “Education and restoration site management” programme. This course builds on the technical knowledge gained during the “Historical monuments” programme. Project management skills, receiving the visiting public, education, organisation, etc. are acquired through theoretical training, practical exercises and case studies. Other training programmes also exist for other members of REMPART associations, e.g. group leaders, association officers, project managers, but also others who may wish to follow a training programme on a particular subject out of personal interest. The national training programmes include a theoretical module, a practical module as well as visits linked to the subject studied. Subjects covered include preparatory stages of restoration projects, restoration techniques (masonry, stone carving, roofing, etc.), specific techniques (plasterwork, stained glass, gardening, etc.), project methodology, association administration and management, etc.
