The Valsery Abbey safeguarding association, founded in 1996 by Pierre and Françoise Pottier, was reactivated from April 7, 2013 by David Balet, stonemason passionate about monastic architecture and stoneworking.

The safeguarding project consists in restoring the remaining buildings of the old Valsery abbey in order to install a museum space dedicated to stone shaping (from quarry to monuments) with exhibitions, visits and introductory courses in the various stone crafts.

As part of the restoration of the abbey, volunteers and trainees will learn the local geology and the different methods of stone extraction through the ages, as well as the stone cutting techniques for the abbey, sculpture and laying stones.

Exhibitions and educational activities will be set up and offered to the greatest number in order to enhance and share the stone trades.

Educational activities will be offered to children in the surrounding communities: visits to local monuments, discovery days of stone cutting and sculpture, exhibitions on stone shaping.

These activities will also be offered to adults, as well as visits to local stone quarries and buildings built with stone from these quarries.
