The Association for the Restoration of the Château de Domfront (ARCD) was created in 1984. It took over from an educational action project carried out by the pupils of the Lycée de Domfront (1982-83).
Its objective is to highlight the ruins of the castle, fortress of Henri Beauclerc, King of England, Duke of Normandy and Lord of Domfront, then residence of the Plantagenêts in the 12th century.

The work first focused on the exhumation and restoration of the nave of the Saint-Symphorien chapel (1984-1990). Between 1991 and 2003, restoration sites worked on the surrounding walls.
Thanks to these works, the ruin has become much more readable and interesting for the many visitors.

Guided tours for school children are possible; ARCD can also provide documents: plans, exercises,? A set of educational documents (information sheets and exercise sheets, primary level or middle school) is being produced, in collaboration with the Lycée A.Chevalier de Domfront, art history option. The first files devoted to the dungeon were published at the end of 2005, in 2006 those concerning the Saint-Symphorien chapel and the first file on the Notre-Dame sur l'Eau church in 2007.
Models produced by the association and showing the evolution of the site are visible at the Domfront Tourist Office.
