The Association for the Safeguarding and Enhancement of Historic Paris was founded in 1963 and recognized as being of public utility in 2015. Its mission is "to undertake and carry out any action to promote, protect and get to know the districts of Paris and the communes of Île-de-France, in order to recognize and safeguard their architectural, urban and sociological harmony. "
Its first action was the safeguard of the Marais district in the 1960s. Preceding the association by one year, the Festival du Marais drew the attention of the public and political leaders to the need to initiate actions in favor of this. threatened heritage, by organizing various cultural events (plays, operas, concerts given in the courtyards of private mansions). From its creation, historic Paris multiplied appeals to public opinion, published the architectural inventory and the perspective plan of the 3rd and 4th arrondissements, and participated in volunteer projects in most of the district's historic places.
The association, whose action has extended to all of Paris and the Ile-de-France, continues today to defend the Parisian districts and diversifies its initiatives (educational workshops, exhibitions, conferences, publications, volunteers at the Ourscamp house and at the Fontainier house).

Aimed at the youngest, the educational activities aim to discover and explain the history and architecture of the city.
"Water and its architecture in Paris", for example, makes it possible to make children aware of the issue of the environment in urban areas and to show them the forms induced by water through the ages.
