Founded in 1219 by the barons of Beaufort, Raoul and Guillaume, the Charterhouse follows the rule of the order of St Bruno.

No doubt looted and partly destroyed at the end of the 16th century by the supporters of the Reformation, it was restored and enlarged from 1676 to 1717, and reached its peak in the 18th century.

After the departure of the last Carthusian monks in 1792, the site was again plundered. Considered a National Property, the monastery was confiscated by The Republic, which sold it in 1795. The buildings of the Chartreuse then served as raw materials for many surrounding constructions.

Today scattered in the churches that depended on it or in private homes around, the rich furniture of the monastery (altar, woodwork, statue of Saint Bruno, pieta) testifies to its past radiance, while only ruins remain mounts of the charterhouse.
