The archaeological site of the Salt Fountains takes its name from the presence of mineral springs.

This site was unearthed in 1934 by Professor René Louis while looking for the "Vaubeton battlefield", battle fought by Girard de Roussillon against King Charles. The excavations continued until 1965.

The remains reveal an almost continuous occupation between the end of the 3rd millennium BC. JC. and the 4th century AD. JC. "In the thermal baths, the oldest constructions date back to the 1st century AD; they are characterized by a small regular device, linked by a white, fine and resistant cement, on which the fictitious joints were traced with iron. At this first two large rooms, one circular and the other rectangular, belonged to the period and formed the bulk of a bathhouse which did not yet offer the standard type of Greco-Roman baths. "

From the second century onwards, fashion from Rome and Italy brought about a total overhaul of the establishment of the first century and the construction of new buildings. On the one hand, the 1st century baths were refurbished to serve as thermal baths for men, on the other hand, larger thermal baths for women were built on old razed buildings.
