Restoration of the former Balata district school site

Ready, set, go!

Come and take part in the restoration of the site of the former Balata district school, perched on the heights of Fort-de-France.

Planned work

Traditional stone and lime masonry.

Restoration of the wall, removal of stones and earth from the site of the previous wall, harpooning and re-building of the wall.

Organization

The site offers full accommodation.

Volunteers and staff will work from 07:00 to 12:30, with a break in the morning. A heritage mason will supervise the work.

Lunches and dinners are prepared on site by the team. Pairs are formed at the start of the session, so that each group is assigned a daily task: meals, washing up, housework.

You don't have to be talented, you just have to want to :)

Activities

Time away from the worksite is given over to group life, with outings, games evenings and other activities to suit everyone's tastes.

/Please note, however, that this is not a summer camp, with activities planned day after day! Everyone is responsible for the group's success.

Accommodation

The team will be staying at the current Balata district elementary school, which has been made available to us for the occasion.

Overnight stays: sleeping rooms are single-sex. We'll be sleeping on field beds provided by the army, with mats and sleeping bags on top.

Sanitary facilities: hot water, separate male and female bathrooms, toilets.

Communal living space: a space has been set aside for group living. We'll take meals here, and make it our headquarters.
