Sculpture course in Coucy

Organised by "Coucy Castle Development Association (AMVCC)"

available from age 18

Come and discover sculpture at Coucy le Château, on a site classified as a Historic Monument and National Estate.

The heritage site

Coucy-le-Château was the third most visited site in France before it was devastated by German troops in 1917.

55 years later, a team of enthusiastic Coucyssiens, keen to see their village's dynamism revived, got involved: the AMVCC was born in 1972.

Since then, we've been organizing volunteer workcamps to safeguard, secure, restore and enhance the site.

Planned restoration work

On this course, you'll learn all about sculpture.

The first morning is devoted to visiting the site, then in the afternoon you'll head off to the workshop.

During these two weeks, you'll discover different techniques used in sculpture.

You'll model in clay, cast in plaster and take home your own work !

You'll also take part in a joint project to restore/conserve the sculpture on the Coucy-le-Château site.
Some projects already completed or in progress:
- the plaster restoration of the monumental door of the Coucy keep (5 m 60 high)
- Animal reliefs sculpted in stone
- Ground impressions of 13th-century lapidary marks and sculptures.

Accommodation and Community Life

Maison associative on 2 floors, including 5 bedrooms with bunk or single beds. Maximum 6 people per room, 3 showers.

We'll be delighted to introduce you to the culinary specialties of our region, concocted with local produce!

Leisure and other activities

  • Visit to the Coucy Le Château site.
  • Visit to an underground quarry.
Weather permitting, we propose a visit to a site in Picardy (e.g. Creil clouterie, Soissons cathedral, Caverne du dragon, etc.).

On the last evening, weather permitting, it's wood-fired pizza!

Outside the workshop, you'll meet up with volunteers from other courses to share convivial moments.
There's a ping-pong table, a dart board and board games. But you can also explore the surrounding area.

Our aim is to offer you an enriching and remarkable stay 🙂
