Friends of Morimond Abbey
Presentation
The association Les Amis de l'Abbaye de Morimond (Friends of Morimond Abbey) safeguards and promotes the building, founded in the 12th century, of which the chapel of Sainte Ursule, the north doorway and part of the library remain today. The fourth daughter of Cîteaux, it had an important network of daughter abbeys, notably in Germany and Eastern Europe. Following damage sustained during the Thirty Years' War, the monks embarked on major conversion work in the 18th century. After the French Revolution, however, the abbey was abandoned and used as a stone quarry. The association organizes guided tours of the site and various events throughout the year (concerts, shows...).
