Barrier Hamlet

The hamlet of Barrières, abandoned since the beginning of the 20th century, is a small village located in the commune of MIERS, in the heart of the Causses du Quercy natural park. The thousand and one remains of stones, foundations of old buildings or barns make this place a vivid witness of a past era. As you walk through the hamlet, you will be surprised by the diversity of these ancient buildings built with limestone from the causse.

“Barrières is a locality in the countryside, surrounded by fields and low walls, in the distance some sickly and leafless trees line up on the edge of pastures [...] When you are in the heart of the hamlet, you get an impression field of ruins ... And then when you get close to what was a building, or rather one of these small houses of the causse, and that we take a look inside, between two gables still standing, we are assailed by his imagination and we can not help dreaming of the life that may have housed this cottage ... ". Text by Françoise Grouhel

The idea is to enhance the site, make it a place of awareness, an educational tool and above all a place reinvested by the inhabitants and local actors.
