For 50 years, the Le Bastidou association has been restoring the medieval site of Peyrusse le Roc. The project of the internship is to highlight a building in ruins, bordering a path. For this, we offer training in stone cutting, hard limestone, and to discover the art of the builders of the Middle Ages.
In the Middle Ages, Peyrusse-le-Roc was an important city, built on the slope of a hill, on the edge of a stream, surrounded by ramparts, dominated by a castle on a rock, with, at its feet, a church. Gothic, a hospital, towers. Now, all these monuments are in ruins, buried in the vegetation, making up an exceptional site.
During the course you will make the arch of a door, in cut stone. In order to understand the technique, you will be introduced to the lines, and the layout, and you will see historical monuments of medieval origin up close.
The stone cutting will be supervised by two professionals. The work will take place, over periods of 6 hours per day, for 4 days in a row. During the stay, the volunteers take care of the preparation of the meals, the maintenance of the premises, the dishes, in pairs, and in turn.
During the stay, we invite you to discover the emblematic places of Rouergue Occidental. The participants of the camp will organize the outings. The Le Bastidou association bears the cost of admission to monuments and cultural events, within the limit of an allocated budget. To celebrate the end of the works, we will share a meal with the local population, on the square of Peyrusse le Roc.
