Stereotomy is the art of cutting and assembling stone-cut pieces. The goal is to be able to build architectural elements such as vaults, corbels, squinches or flights of stairs.
The Porte de Laon in Coucy-le-château-Auffrique has many vaulted corridors, chimney ducts, spiral staircase, doors, windows, merlon battlements and walkway that we want to study and know for future restorations.
In order to help us greatly advance the construction site and to make it more fun and understandable for visitors, you will participate in the creation of stone models of these different architectural elements that have disappeared from the Porte de Laon. But before stacking the blocks it will be necessary to go through the statement, the technical drawings, the layout of the working drawing and the size of the various stone elements without forgetting the manufacture of the wooden vales!
The arrival time will be communicated to you a fortnight before the start of the course.
Arrivals are on Sunday late afternoon, early evening (around 6:30 p.m.).
Departures are scheduled for Saturday morning (after cleaning and tidying up the house).
The guided tour of the castle and the fortified enclosure are essential at the start of the work.
We also offer one or two other tours of the area.
