Participate in the restoration of the John Robinson Lock.

The Cotswold Canals Trust aims to reopen the route between the River Thames (at Inglesham) and the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal at Saul , proceeding in stages.

Phase 1a, from Stonehouse to Brimscombe, is largely complete; work on phase 1b is underway to reconnect it to the canal system at Saul . Phase 2 will restore the eastern end, from Inglesham to Cotswold Water Park. Finally, phase 3 will tackle the difficult central section, from the water park to Brimscombe.

Current work focuses on "phase 1b" of the Stroudwater Navigation, which is being rebuilt and reopened from Saul Junction to Stonehouse, reconnecting the Cotswold Canals (the Stroudwater and the Thames & Severn Canal) to the national canal network. This work is supported by a major grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Our work represents a significant contribution to the overall project, as well as counting as part of the necessary “matching funding” required by the Lottery grant.

The work on the three projects this summer aims to complete the reconstruction of the John Robinson lock , after six weeks of successful construction in 2023. There are still brick repairs, the replacement of copings, the installation of lock ladders and landscaping to be carried out, without forgetting the Dock lock , located nearby, on which work must be done.
