Come and participate in the restoration of the exterior decorations of the Boulaye Buddhist Temple built in the 1980s, the only temple in our Region.

Change of scenery guaranteed. You will be able to discover this unique territory mixing cultural and natural heritage.

The Temple of La Boulaye, known as "Paldenshangpa La Boulaye", is located on the grounds of the Château de Plaige, in the town of La Boulaye. This center was founded in 1974 by a couple of French disciples of Kalou Rinpoche. The new temple of a thousand Buddhas was officially inaugurated on August 22, 1987. It is the first Himalayan temple in Europe and is built on the model of the temple of Samyé, the first temple built in Tibet. It is built in the Bhutanese style and has three levels, which evoke the body, speech and mind of the Buddha, and is characterized by the presence of rich multicolored decorations, both inside and outside.

The area on which we are going to intervene is the West gallery which is located on the second floor, above the main staircase and has 4 square pillars painted red and supporting the blue architrave. The square pillars are made of concrete covered with textured plasterboard, painted red and topped with molded plaster capitals as well. The latter are decorated with tracery and brightly colored patterns, enhanced with gold paint. The following protocol will be carried out: Preparation of the supports with a view to good adhesion of the new paints: stripping of flaking zones and uprisings of the paint layer. Restitution of missing moldings. Recolouring of the pillars and capitals respecting the original polychromy, still present and in good condition on the lower gallery. Application of golden paint highlights.

You will be accommodated in the Boulaye area. Times will alternate between work time and leisure time.

You will be able to discover the religious sites of the surroundings: Orthodox temple in Uchon, ecumenical center of Taizé, but also the heritage sites of the city of Autun. The conservators-restorers will offer discovery tours of buildings with mural paintings to learn about their profession. Leisure time such as swimming, hiking will be offered.
