Medieval calligraphy - Berzy 1 - Inks, parchment and writing

This course offers you a discovery of medieval calligraphy on papyrus and parchment, associated with illumination.

You will approach the supports, the medieval writing, the ruling, the initials and the gilding. Personal creation (bookmark, card…) based on the architectural structure of the castle or the church of Berzy.

Discovery and improvement in medieval calligraphy with work on Gothic writing, tools and supports over time.
Writing on papyrus, parchment and heavyweight paper in an atmosphere worthy of the scriptoria!
Introduction to illumination through the production of an ornate letter on the theme of Romanesque or Gothic art.
Approach to gilding on parchment, sigillography and wax work on parchment. Size of feathers and manufacture of ferrogallic inks, pigments.

The first session will be devoted to medieval calligraphy, inks and supports (technique of making parchment...)

The following sessions will focus more on illumination.
