On the balcony on the mountain, this site is ideal for discovering the techniques of erecting dry stone and masonry walls! At the foot of the Chartreuse, it is also an opportunity to walk the paths from the valley to the mountains and discover the heritage with those who live in these landscapes.

10 minutes from Grenoble, Biviers is a town located in the Grésivaudan valley in Isère. At the foot of the Chartreuse massif, on the village church square, the Cure de Biviers is a privileged site overlooking the Belledonne chain.

This spring, the renovation of the terraces of La Cure in partnership with the municipality of Biviers and its association "Art and Heritage" will begin. This project is part of a larger project to renovate the historic site of La Cure and its surroundings.

Terrace restoration project: this involves repairing and rebuilding “identically” the retaining walls below the Cure de Biviers, with a view to enhancing heritage.
This project will be a training course in several sessions.

It will include educational sequences during each phase of the work (including public information sessions)
in order to describe and explain the local specificities of masonry walls, and in particular of retaining walls.

The four walls are made of limestone, masonry with lime, then repointed with cement. A system of barbicans makes it possible to highlight this type of construction and are part of a good flow of water.

Supervised by the Rural Mountain University, a first session will begin in the spring including:

- devegetation

- the dismantling of certain parts of the wall

- the assembly of stone walls masonry with lime

- erection of dry stone walls

- the design of a stone staircase

You will be accommodated at the Hugues center, near the construction site. Construction times will be under the responsibility of an experienced mason. and a supervisor for group life. The volunteers - and inhabitants - of the art and heritage association will accompany us and lead us to discover their territory. A construction site is learning by sharing convivial moments.

The days of collective work are punctuated by visits to remarkable sites and commented discoveries of the local heritage. Hiking in the Chartreuse, site visits, discovery walks...
