[Open letter to University, Faculty and school teachers and staff]

Dedicated to heritage preservation and know-how transmission, Union REMPART is an NGO coordinating and promoting volunteers projects organized by local associations in France. We believe that volunteering is a wonderful opportunity to commit to heritage but also to develop oneself, to get involved in a concrete way for the community and to learn together how to be active citizens of the world.

REMPART’s actions are educational by nature and we would very much like to share our expertise with you. You will find below information on how REMPART can help you to offer life-long learning experiences to your students and yourself (internship agreements, ECTS credits, specific training in different fields). We will also underline the concrete benefits for the volunteers (practising French, reduced cost for all-inclusive holidays…).

If you would like to know more, do not hesitate to contact us at cloarec@rempart.com. We could easily set up an online meeting to introduce you to our organization or to present our actions to your students. We would gladly welcome you to one of our heritage sites or send you more documentation as well.

Why Union REMPART?

Driven by the desire to make heritage restoration accessible to all, we will offer your students a field experience to complete their studies. They will find a perfect way to practice what they have learned and to develop new skills thanks to our varied technical training (archaeology excavations, stonecutting or ironwork workshops, stained-glass windows creation, digital images processing or sculpture restoration, for example). They will be supervised by qualified instructors and enjoy extraordinary heritage sites all over France.

We believe that non-formal learning should be highlighted, that every student should have the chance to include this experience in his/her curriculum. Hence, we sign internship agreements, deliver training certification on demand (i.e. Europass) and your students can get ECTS credits if you are part of the Bologna Agreement. Indeed, more and more universities in the world are valorising volunteering as a source of soft skills and transform the commitment of their students into university credits: we offer you a new way to do the same.

REMPART’s volunteer projects are also an amazing way to learn more about new cultures and to make friends from everywhere in the world: these are the words of our volunteers! On-site, they meet the local association, French and international volunteers – that we welcome thanks to our large network of partners – and to individual registration.

This approach is also promoted through our ERASMUS + Heritage Volunteers and Leaders projects led since 2018 with partners from everywhere in Europe, including universities and scholars. We would be more than happy to work with you on future exchanges, to count you in as an international partner! If you are interested, write to us here.

In addition, we pay particular attention to the students who would like to practice French (we created technical glossaries in English, Italian, Spanish…), as our long partnership with the Alliances Françaises of Russia proves.

Practical information

➤ You can find all the volunteers projects open to individual registration here. There are more than 300 different ones every year, hosted by around 180 associations, all over France. Many of our actions take place during the summer, but we also have sessions from March to mid-November.

➤ REMPART volunteer action price includes bed and board for the duration of the stay (usually around 100€, for 1 or 2 weeks).

➤ There is no age limit, and no required qualification to join a site!

➤ If you wish to come as a group, REMPART creates tailor-made projects for groups. The educational project of the stay can be based on a specific topic defined by you and the local association. The action can run from one day up to two weeks, and the pace of the work can be adapted to the audience and the objectives targeted. The size of the group received can range from 3-4 people to 30. Generally, participants are accompanied by their supervisors but REMPART associations provide technical instructors. The action can also offer additional activities: guided tours to discover the local heritage, focus on European culture and heritage… The costs of these actions will vary depending on your expectations (project, accommodation or not, full board, leisure or not, type of technique covered…) and on the number of participants.

➤ Our associations follow strictly sanitary recommendations: the number of volunteers is adjusted to allow physical distance in the accommodation, on-site or during the free time. Besides, we will offer a total refund if it is impossible for the volunteer to reach the site, if s.he gets sick or if the action is cancelled.
