Oumaima's unforgettable journey

In 2019, I took part in a REMPART workcamp at Moulins-Engilbert’s castle with a friend. This workcamp turned out to be one of the best experiences of my life!

I come from Morocco: I wanted to visit a new country, to discover a new heritage, a new culture. Once I arrived, I was dazzled by the beauty of the Morvan landscapes and the charm of the village of Moulins-Engilbert. I will never forget the warm welcome from the villagers, from the association and from Marie, the president of the association, who was like a mum to us. The workcamp started early in the morning and finished at 2 PM. In the afternoon, we prepared the meal and went outside for leisure activities (bike rides, walks in the village, swimming in the lakes). We were invited for diner almost every day with the people of the village. I have built extraordinary friendships with the other volunteers of the workcamp. We learned how to work and live in a group, to appreciate the heritage whatever the country.

There are especially two days in particular I could never forget:
– The day of the medieval festival; during the workcamp, we helped to organize this festival, a big event for the village. I don’t have the words to describe this day: the costumes, the parties, the games, the organization, seeing the smile on all the faces… It was euphoria!
– The last evening before we left, my friend and I prepared couscous and invited the people of the village and the association to thank them for their welcome and kindness. At the end of the evening, they sang a song in our honor and it only made the experience more beautiful.

My testimony is a bit long but so many good memories come back to my mind when I talk about REMPART!
I really advise everyone to take part in a workcamp: you won’t find a better organization, they take care of everything and the people in charge are very kind. You will live unforgettable experiences and restore the heritage for better preservation of the world’s heritage.
